Three weeks of work, here is the schedule:

- Gaddis outlines for chapter 6, 7 and epilogue - if you do not hand in via the blog - please show me your notes / outlines or whatever you have to show you read the chapter.
- Gorbachev questions (paper 1 practice questions) -

By Friday, April 23rd:
- Outline for Cold War: Part II of the Cold War study guide
- Outline for 2 (Two not three) authoritarian / single party state rulers.

For the "study week" we can cover whatever you want and however you want to study. We can figure out a specific schedule as we get closer to the deadline.

Deng and Fall of Communism questions

Here are the questions (directly from the IB guide) for your China section on "Crisis in Communism" for Paper 1:

1. Describe the struggle for power following Mao, the emergence of Deng Xiaoping and the defeat of the gang of four.
2. Describe some of the economic policies and Four Modernizations for China under Deng
3. What were the political changes and limits under Deng and how did these culminate in the Tiananmen Square conflict in 1989?
   

Hand these in or submit via the blog by the end of this week (march 12th)

Use the IB Cold War theme / framework as your guide

Read both the Preface and Prologue: Write a quick (couple of bullet point) summary or overview of each.

Chapter 1: Return of Fear: page 5 - 47
There are eight "sections" for chapter 1. You are to read each section and come up with a title / theme / main idea for each of the sections and then some key points supporting this idea. You should end up with a concise and purposeful outline of the chapter. Keep it simple and to the point - meant to be a reminder to you what the main points are.

Chapter 2: Deathboats and Lifeboats: 48 - 83
There are twelve sections to summarize in this portion of the reading. Follow the same format for this chapter - Main idea of each section with some support for the main idea. You do not need to write a book - keep it simple and straight-forward - things you can remember.

IA update

IA! IA! IA! Get cracking on your work.

Here is what you need to do in the near future:

Monday: November 2: Have a revised / updated version of your Summary of Evidence. You need to nail this down. Make sure you have citations / source info. Be focused on your topic sentence / focus points - be focused and stay focused.

Work on the OPVLs you are choosing. Not Due Monday, but you should have a draft developing.

Blog-o-ssignment: Causes of World War II

Due Date: Tuesday, October 6th

Here is your chance summarize what we have learned about the causes of World War II.

Your task:

Identify, summarize and justify what you believe are the three long term and three short term causes of World War II.

Specifics:

• You do not need to write this in paragraph form, but it must answer the question and show substantiated support. A detailed outline is a great approach.
  
• Try to collate information from all the different sources we have used so far and make a substantiated and articulate argument.
• Try to incorporate several of the primary sources we've investigated in the Origins of WWI and WWII book.

I will use a modified paper two rubric to grade this assignment.

Summary and OPVL of two document case studies

Due Date: Thursday Sept. 17

Using the "Origins of the First and Second World War" document case study on pages 65 -66, choose two to analyze.

For the two you choose to study, give a brief description / summary of the document and then write an OPVL for each. For the Origin focus on who is stating the information and the context of this rather than using the bibliographical information at the bottom of the passage.

Origins of World War II: Assignment

Using the Cambridge Book read pages 53 - 64 and do the same note taking process for each of the headings: Reading is due Monday with notes. Keep them short and concise.

Additionally, remember to have your IA topic moving along. I will have a Google IA History calendar very soon.
